you all want to hear some Anathema news. i just wanted to enjoy being here for a year in front of some public.
First and probably most important - 'hindsight' album has been finished! already or at last, depending on your point of view
I remind that it is an acoustic album, classic anathema tracks with one new song. Everything, including the cover artwork, was done by Anathema members.

OK, first thing done. Now the totally NEW album, which has already changed it's name from 'Everything' to ' Paradigm Shift' and now to 'Horizons'. How do you like it?
About 'Horizons'... hmm... work is still in progress! Vincent and Danny talk about end of 2008/beginning of 2009 for the release.
And now a few words about the Bucharest gig. Acoustic one, Danny + Vincent + Dave, remember?

Only snag was Danny leaving straight after the concert (dunno if he came back, heard 2 different versions
) and his being little bit off colour. I don't think it's time or place to discuss or judge it, but i came across quite a few discussions about it. So here's Danny's answer to that -
" can i make a little statement about the gig in romania.
it was obvious i could not enjoy the show properly. but i need to stress this was NOT because of the fans. it seemed obvious to me when we walked on the stage that the concert venue (no seats) and the crowd size, would have been FAR more suited to a full band rock show. i only wish we could have given them that.
i realized as soon as i started the first song that the way this concert had been put together was a mistake. this is not the fault of the promoters. the promotion company in romania are dear and good people who only did their best.
but i am used to a very different set up for acoustic shows. they are all about tension, drama, emotion and beauty. this big gig was always going to be hard. once i got into that mode of thinking it was hard to get out of it, though we did have some good moments. i know the romanian fans are special and i only wish we can go to bucharest for a full show. then we will see a great evening. i am sorry that this dissapointment and shock was reflected in my performance last week, but i am one of those artists who has to be myself in what i do. what you see is what you get. no mask. thats why the songs are so honest.

OK. Last thing - DATES
Danny will be touring with Anneke van Giersbergen (Norway and Sweden) very soon.
Expect some special performances there, their previous tour together was amazing!

On the same weekend Vincent Cavanagh and Duncan Patterson will be having 2 great shows together in France. i wanted to be there so much
but money issues and exams made me stay home.

To celebrate PARADISE LOST's 20th anniversary this year, the British gothic metal pioneers will perform two special shows this September alongside ANATHEMA and MY DYING BRIDE.

Sep. 19 - The Forum, London, UK
and that's it for now, tho i'm sure i already missed sth... but OK, it took A WHILE to get all that info in one place
Almost forgot - have you ever, by any chance, heard Anathema's 'new material', songs like 'bricks', 'lightning song' and such, never played live before? I've already been given such a mysterious "demo" 2-3 times last year and it seems that Anathema has noticed that phenomenon recently :

the only anathema new material we have released online are the three songs you can find on this site and on our myspace page.
any supposed "demo" of any other song is probably danny cavanagh doing guest vocals on the 'spherical minds' album. so just to let you know, if you think you are listening to 'lightning song' or 'bricks'... you are not. "
btw, "fern" is really good and worth listening. but it's NOT new Anathema material!
Last, but not least for those who know much about sound and equipment - probably you'll find this one interesting (i admit, i know nothing of it
). It's a question our member ~

(...) I would like to ask you about your equipment. I know you used mostly LP studios, Marshall heads and some Line 6 delays. Is it right that you use the 2-channel Marshall tube amps and even use their distortion for the heavy parts? Do you use their built-in reverb or another one? And another question is about tuning, I'm now asking about The Silent Enigma where your sound was unbelievably heavy.. I know it's a long time ago .. Was it just few steps down, LPs and Marshall heads? And in these days there used to be a lot of amazing feedback stuff in your music, was it all natural or did you use some effects for feedbacking? Danny's answer to that one:
" well i always used to use laney heads and i think i am going to try their new range and see how it sounds. i just bought a new gibson les paul, but i intend to get a good fender strat with a humbucker pickup too.
[link] this is the guy who builds anathema's guitars he just made one for vincent and it is a beautiful piece of work. he will upgrade the fender for me, or build a copy.
i'll probably get a sustainer pickup fitted onto that guitar. that will help create infinite feedback.
in the older days we used to tune 5 steps lower, to B, but on eternity it became obvious afterwards that this did not suit our new songwriting style. so when alternative 4 came around we moved to standard tuning and have stayed there ever since, though we may tune down occasionally for a couple of new heavier songs. the feedback in older days was due to the sound i had, high gain. i use less gain now as i have matured as a player, but the sustainer pickup will halp bring the feedback back into our sound.

PS on the older albums i used ZOOM 9050 for the effects, even the distortion. for the moment i have been using a very good distortion pedal, a carl martin plexitone. if i find the right AMP, i'll go back to using amp distortion, except on gigs we fly to, and i'll use the FX loops in the amp to link up my LINE 6 effect boxes. if you have been to an acoustic show of mine, you'll see the line 6 DL4 delay pedal being used alot. "
